When Every Device Can See-AI & Embedded Vision in Products - Jeff Bier

https://www.eventbrite.com/e/when-every-device-can-see-ai-embedded-vision-in-products-jeff-bier-tickets-32144095856

HOST: Silicon Catalyst

AGENDA

6:00-6:30 pm: Meet and Greet

6:30-7:30 pm: Presentation from Jeff Bier

7:30-8:00pm: Q&A

ABSTRACT

In nature, intelligence and vision are tightly linked: virtually every species we consider to be intelligent has been equipped by evolution with vision. Similarly, to truly be intelligent, our devices and applications need visual perception. Most systems today lack vision because computer vision technology has been too expensive, too power-hungry, too complex – and too unreliable. But this is now changing with breathtaking speed. Accelerating advances in processors, algorithms, sensors, and development tools and techniques are increasingly making it both attractive and practical to equip all kinds of systems with vision, including high-volume, battery-powered devices. Artificial neural networks play a critical part of this transformation.

In this presentation, Jeff will share his unique perspective – informed both by product development projects and by interactions with many industry players – on the most important technology trends enabling the widespread use of embedded vision in products, with particular emphasis on deep learning. Jeff will also highlight examples of innovative products that illustrate the potential for vision to fundamentally change the capabilities of devices and to enable new business models.

SPEAKER BIO

Jeff Bier is the Founder of the Embedded Vision Alliance, a partnership of 60+ technology companies that works to enable the widespread use of practical computer vision. He is also the General Chairman of the Embedded Vision Summit (May 1-3, 2017 in Santa Clara, California) — the only conference devoted to enabling product creators to build better products using computer vision. Jeff is also president of BDTI. Jeff is a frequent keynote and invited speaker at industry conferences, and writes the popular monthly column “Impulse Response”.

The State of Deep Learning on Mobile

https://www.meetup.com/sviphone/events/234006876/

Speaker: Nand Dalal

It’s 2017, and computers can see. Still, it can be challenging to integrate deep learning into our apps. I’ll go over the best approaches, including Tensorflow, and show how the new Clarifai SDK makes it easy to train models in real-time on a device and share them among users.

Nand is a research engineer at Clarifai, where he works on building out machine learning capabilities and bringing them to new platforms, like mobile. Prior to Clarifai, he was an undergrad at the University of Michigan working with Professor Honglak Lee.

Advanced Blockchain Application Development

For enterprise permissioned blockchains, 2016 has been a formative year. The landscape has settled and developers can now choose from the following open source options :

1. Linux Foundation Hyperledger Fabric — with chain codes

2. Ethereum customized for permissioned use

3. Chain Protocol from chain.com

4. Corda from R3

Creating applications that can work on top of any of these ledgers, to satisfy  customer preference, is becoming a requirement. Application design and coding paradigms for creation of such ledger agnostic applications is very much a developing art.

At Skuchain we have had to tackle the ledger agnostic application development challenge. We will present our learnings from this work  by illustrating how Skuchain's Brackets technology works on either Hyperledger or Ethereum, depending on customer request.

Agenda:

   6 pm :  Doors open

   6 - 6:30 : Mingle, refreshments

   6:30 :  Techcode/Skuchain announcements

   6:35 - 7:30 :    Ledger Agnostic Application Development -- Ranga Krishnan

   7:30 -8:00 : Questions and Wrap-up

Getting Started with Deep Learning

Registration link

NVIDIA Deep Learning Institute (DLI) instructor Mr. Craig Tierney will be presenting a 2-hour hands-on lab entitled Getting Started with Deep Learning at TechCode Mountain View. Participants should plan ahead and attend the workshop onsite with your laptop at TechCode Mountain View office. It is a very valuable and technical workshop and you can attend it for free at TechCode AI+ Accelerator!

Deep learning is giving machines near human levels of visual recognition capabilities and disrupting many applications by replacing hand-coded software with predictive models learned directly from data. This lab introduces the machine learning workflow and provides hands-on experience with using deep neural networks (DNN) to solve a real-world image classification problem. You will walk through the process of data preparation, model definition, model training and troubleshooting, validation testing and strategies for improving model performance. You’ll also see the benefits of GPU acceleration in the model training process. On completion of this lab you will have the knowledge to use NVIDIA DIGITS to train a DNN on your own image classification dataset.

Prerequisites: Basic knowledge of data science and machine learning

Audience Level: Beginner

Additional information to send to each lab attendee prior to the November 7 workshop:
1. All DLI Lab attendees must create a qwiklLABS account by going to https://nvlabs.qwiklab.com/ prior to getting to the workshop.
2. Test your laptop to ensure qwiklabs runs smoothly by going to http://websocketstest.com/
• Make sure that WebSockets work for you by seeing under Environment, WebSockets is supported and Data Receive, Send and Echo Test all check Yes under WebSockets (Port 80).
• If there are issues with WebSockets, try updating your browser. Best browsers for qwiklabs are Chrome, FireFox and Safari. The labs will run in IE but it is not an optimal experience.

Bio: Craig Tierney is a Solutions Architect in the Worldwide Field Organization at NVIDIA. His primary roles are to support deep learning and high-performance computing. He is focused on applying deep learning to weather and climate research and leveraging the power of typical HPC technologies to accelerate deep learning. Prior to joining NVIDIA, Craig spent more than a decade providing high-performance computing architecture and computational science support to NOAA and several other government and educational organizations including DOE, NASA, DOD and Stanford University. Craig holds a Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering Sciences from the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Natural Language Processing in TensorFlow

Natural Language Processing in TensorFlow

Data Science Training

In this class, we will look at Natural Language Processing (NLP) and how to apply deep learning to practical NLP applications. Specifically, we will look at recurrent neural networks and its applications.

This is an advanced deep learning course. It assumes you have basic knowledge of deep learning and some hands-on experience with TensorFlow.

This class will take you through the fundamentals of deep learning methods, with hands-on exercises. It also gives you broad understanding of NLP applications where deep learning can be used. The course is divided into 3 major components:

  1.  Fundamentals of Recurrent Neural Networks
  2.  Practical applications of NLP with RNN
  3.  Building an end-to-end NLP application

By the end of this class, you would have solid understanding of Recurrent Neural Networks, and how to use it for NLP problems. You will have confidence to build an end-to-end NLP application with deep learning.

Prerequisite of this class:

Hands-on experience with Deep learning and TensorFlow

 Course outline:

  1. Introduction to Natural Language processing.
  2. Deep dive into Recurrent Neural Networks, particularly LSTM
  3. Applications of deep learning in NLP domains: We will review named entity detection, text summarization, machine translation, and question answering systems
  4. A complete text processing pipeline
  5. Hands on exercises on creating an end-to-end NLP application in TensorFlow

All coding is done in TensorFlow and Python.

You will have access to an AWS machine where you can play and code with TensorFlow. TensorFlow is pre-installed by the course instructor.

Instructor for this course:

Junling Hu, a leading expert in artificial intelligence and data science, founder of question.ai, has built natural language applications based on deep learning. She is the author of an upcoming book on artificial intelligence and deep learning. She has worked in Samsung, PayPal and eBay where she led teams in building big data applications.
